New Blood 016 – Various Medschool

It was time to sit down and give Medschools Musics – New Blood 016 a good listen.  The series always has a varied selection of new names to dive into as well as good variation for the DnB tribes.  This particularly wonderful compilation includes the spacy, deep sounds of Hiddenwave, Interger, Milkyway and some wondrous synth blankets from Receptor and Sun.  From the dark side there’s also a good dose from Nami, Nerve and Distant Future & MT.

Receptor – Magnetism

Beautifully, full and rounded percussion intros the album as Receptor creativity twists the sublime human vocals gracing this piece.

Insect – Waterbombs

Drips and clicks intro big kicks and a furry bassline on Waterbombs.  A steady moody piece

Lurch – Weather Change

Lurch picks the pace up for the release on Weather Change.  Soulful and deep, blessed with a silky vocal and accompanied by some wistful sax and piano.  Guaranteed meditation for the dancer in your mind.

Milkyway – Far Away

Awesomely warm synth is the hero of Far Away. Bursting at the seams with moreish melody and strong percussive progression, surprise and delight.

Lynch Kingsley & Ilk – Spells

Minimal, choppy rhythm’s and low rapid and rumbling bassline hypnotise before exploding with an extended, trippy journey, whilst maintaining a minimal feel.

Nami – Through the Night

Warped tech synth opens up Through the Night before a nervous paranoia on the vocal instrumentation sets the scene for this dancefloor darkener form Nami

Oshirijima – Peace

Rushing, rave inspired piece will get the blood pumping with plenty of rapid looping and vocal twist play making for a thrilling ride.

Sun – Roots

Chopped, trimmed percussion is blessed with warm synth, which maintains an earthly and organic feel.  This lends Roots a pleasant live instrumentation quality, despite the higher polished reality, sublime stuff.

Polaris – Found You

‘Found You’ sounds like what the colours a consciousness would look like in space, travelling at the speed of light, whilst passing Jupiter.

Neve – Magic Flute

Good to hear some hoover vibes on this big stomper.  The lead character in this exploration into drumworkery is, of cause, the Flute, a nervous character whom enters strongly when called upon.  One for the happy grimace on the dancefloor.

Pearse Hawkins – Hawkshaw

Loads of luscious layers to wrap the listener are accompanied by a stepping rhythm which threatens to rush forward uncontrollably.

Integer – Ursa Minor

Integer opens with the sky in mind but then brings the soundscape right back and within itself.  Ursa Minor seems to wrap itself in its own bassline as distant piano hits it on all dimensions, relaying an immerse quality.

Distant Future & MT – Hardware

Industrial sounds accompany a big thump of a kick drum and rumbling low bassline as they crash and ripple through Hardware.

Hiddenwave – Everything

Deep and meditative, with subtle rattling percussion work.  A nice wavy ‘under the covers’ synth plays through, grounded on by a thick bedrock of low frequencies
